Pacific Northwest National Lab (PNNL) is seeking undergraduate students for the opportunity to be a cyber security intern working alongside a team of Cyber Security Engineers, Analysts, and Researchers to generate creative solutions for government sponsors through a full development lifecycle including planning, design, and implementation. The candidate will get exposure to creating solutions from the ground up which requires working through complex technical challenges. The incumbent is organizationally part of the Operations & Analysis Group. This Group is a part of the National Security Directorate and provides high quality technology and analysis products to the U.S. Department of Energy and other federal agencies. This position is located in the Washington, DC area.
Responsibilities and accountabilities include:
Installation and/or maintenance of hardware and software components
Configuration of network switches, routers, and firewalls
Installation, Configuration, and Support of Operating Systems including Microsoft Windows, and Linux
Follow standard operational procedures to install, patch, or upgrade Operating Systems and Software components
Utilize Jira, Confluence, and other Atlassian suite tools to track tasks and documentation
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to team and collaborate effectively with others
Able to deliver results with the highest level of professionalism and integrity
Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.
Relevant experience in cyber security, computer science, or closely related field
Experience working national security missions
Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills
Ability to interact professionally with sponsors
Current active DOD TS/SCI or DOE Q/SCI
Special/Hazardous Working Conditions or Environment
This position will require occasional work around electrical computer cabinets that may include installing computer, network, and other components.

Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 consecutive months can be demonstrated.
This position will require the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance. Applicants must be U. S. citizens, no dual citizenship, and have no foreign national immediate family members. Work location will be primarily in Washington, DC, with travel determined by project need.
