Job Description

  • Team with other software developers to create and deploy one of a kind software capabilities which are tailored to meet the unique needs of our sponsors.

  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices and software project lifecycles

  • Developed reputation as a technical leader or expert in at least one software domain.

  • Experience with Frameworks for Progressive Web Applications including Angular and React

  • Experience with JavaScript engines including NodeJS

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

  • Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with clients, laboratory scientific staff and management.

  • Expert level knowledge in computer science and cyber security.

  • Build proficiency with tools and collaborate with PNNL R&D developers to build demonstrations for sponsor engagements.

  • Collaborate on resolution of emerging issues with PNNL deployed tools and provide feedback to enhance software capabilities.

  • Achieve proficiency in PNNL-developed technologies, and maintain understanding of current and emerging analytical tools and software products relevant to needed capabilities and methodologies.

  • May develop and deliver briefings on technical topics to peers, managers and sponsors.

  • Proven ability to manage tasks and recommend a path forward.

  • Self-confidence, the ability to relate concepts with conviction and humor, and demonstrates active listening skills.

  • Open and receptive to feedback, maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and in teams.

The hiring level will be determined based on the education, experience and skill set of the successful candidate based on the following criteria and performance level indicators:

  • Level III : Manages small to moderate projects and/or major project tasks. Integrates intellectual and technical capabilities of work teams. Enhances technical/professional skills of junior staff through active mentoring and training. Generates ideas for new proposals and participates in business development activities

  • Level IV : Selects and develops technical approaches to complex challenges. Principal investigator/Lead or coPI on multiple or significantly complex, and/or high risk projects or tasks and/or involving multiple tasks, capabilities, and organizations. Takes lead in scope, schedule, and budget for projects or large tasks Demonstrates ability to acquire funding for self and task level teams. Leading organizational teams that proactively identify and promote new capabilities within a division and S&E domain, and advance the directorate strategy. Sought after within PNNL for technical leadership to set technical direction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years’ experience or a Master's degree with 3+ years’ experience or a PhD with at least 1 years experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years’ experience, or a Master's degree with 5+ years’ experience, or a PhD with at least 3 year experience

  • Ability to work in and support operations in a classified environment

  • Experience performing functional mission analysis

  • Experience in handling large and diverse data sets and information, analytical research and analysis

  • Experience in writing concise, clearly articulated technical reports

  • Degree in a national security related field or in a cyber related discipline

  • MS Degree in computer science or closely related field and 5 years of relevant experience

  • Relevant experience is defined as:

  • Demonstrated research skills and/or professional publications in the field of computer science

  • Expert level knowledge in computer science and cyber security, some experience with programming languages, and knowledge of network engineering

  • Experience working national security missions

  • Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with clients and laboratory scientific staff and management.

  • Other preferred qualifications include past experience working with tool development or testing, and experience working the cyber security discipline.

  • This position requires a current active DOD TS/SCI or DOE Q/SCI

  • This position requires a current active DOD TS/SCI or DOE Q/SCI

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B. All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions.

  • This position will require the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance. Applicants must be U. S. citizens, no dual citizenship, and have no foreign national immediate family members. Work location will be primarily the Washington D.C. area, with travel determined by project need.

  • May be subject to a CI or full scope polygraph.

  • Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs for 12 consecutive months can be demonstrated.

  • This position may require exposure to content which may be considered abnormal or graphic in nature.
