Pacific Northwest National Lab (PNNL) is seeking a senior computer science researcher with a broad skill set to develop and teach graduate level cyber security courses, engage in cutting edge research, and help maintain an S&T innovation lab. The ideal candidate is an experienced computer scientist with great passion for innovation and cutting-edge technologies, who is both highly technical and creative. This position is located in Bethesda, MD. The incumbent is organizationally part of the Operations & Analysis Group. This Group is a part of the National Security Directorate and provides high quality technology and analysis products to the U.S. Department of Energy and other federal agencies.
Responsibilities and accountabilities include:
Develop and teach course curriculum that meets learning objectives for graduate-level cyber security accredited courses
Build custom computer environments (hardware and software) to enable student and faculty research
Co-develop experiential exercises and demonstrations. Build proficiency with tools and data sets and collaborate with PNNL R&D developers to build demonstrations for sponsor engagements and classroom activities
Engage in computer science and/or cyber security research
BS/BA with 7 years of experience, MS/MA with 5 years of experience, or PhD with 3 years of experience in computer science or closely related field
Relevant experience is defined as:
Demonstrated research skills and/or professional publications in the field of computer science
Expert level knowledge in computer science and cyber security, some experience with programming languages, and knowledge of network engineering
Work location is in Bethesda, MD .
PhD in computer science or related field
Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with clients and laboratory scientific staff and management.
This position requires an active DOD TS or DOE Q, and the ability to obtain an SCI.
Prior teaching experience
Experience working national security missions

Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B. All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions.
This position will require the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance. Applicants must be U. S. citizens, no dual citizenship, and have no foreign national immediate family members. Work location will be primarily in Bethesda, MD, with travel determined by project need. **Must meet minimum requirements to receive further consideration.
Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs for 12 consecutive months can be demonstrated.
This position will require occasional work around electrical computer cabinets that may include installing computer, network, and other components.
