The National Security Professional Leaders Internship team is looking for a PhD level law student intern for summer 2020, to support Global Security Technology and Policy (GSTP) with public international law research related to chemical security and nuclear nonproliferation. Research will likely include, among other subjects, performing comparative analysis between international recommendations and existing national laws and regulations to identify divergences. The law student intern may also support the development of curricula for foreign technical assistance related to chemical, biological, nuclear and radioactive materials security and international nuclear safeguards.
Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
A preferred candidate will have some familiarity with or demonstrated interest in issues related to weapons of mass destruction non-proliferation and security, arms control, international and comparative law, administrative and regulatory law, as well as general constitutional principles of law. The candidate should be a self-starter with great attention to detail and excellent writing skills. Any of the following areas of prior work or study or additional skills could be a benefit, though are not required:
international relations (political science),
foreign technical assistance,
technical subject matter, such as chemical or nuclear engineering, and
professional fluency in a foreign language.
The law student intern must currently be in the process of completing a law-related graduate program. The candidate should be familiar with basic legal research concepts and have an interest in national and international security.
