Job Description

The Global Security and Technology Policy (GSTP) team is looking for an intern for the summer to assist with policy and regulatory analysis research related to chemical security and nuclear nonproliferation. Research will likely include, among other things, cataloguing and analyzing chemical security policies, regulations, and best practices across countries to help PNNL develop a compendium of international best practices on chemical security. The intern may also assist on research relating to IAEA safeguards legislative and regulatory requirements and the IAEA Code of Conduct for Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources. Other work may include indexing WMD-related policies and regulations from multiple countries with common criteria to help identify associated gaps in the international community.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be matriculated/enrolled in a Master's program at an accredited college or university. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

Preferred Qualifications

A preferred candidate will be familiar with issues related to WMD proliferation, international and comparative law, administrative and regulatory law, as well as general constitutional principles of law. The candidate should be a self-starter with great attention to detail and excellent writing skills. Any of the following areas of prior work or study or additional skills could be a benefit, though are not required:

  • international relations (political science),

  • foreign technical assistance,

  • international organizations,

  • technical subject matter, such as chemical or nuclear engineering, and

  • professional fluency in a foreign language.

Preffered Education/Credential:

The intern must currently be enrolled in a law-related graduate program. The candidate should be familiar with basic policy research concepts and have an interest in national and international security. Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher preferred.
