Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is looking for a dynamic Software Engineer in Front End Develoment. For more than 50 years, PNNL has been advancing the frontiers of science and engineering in the service of our nation and the world in the areas of energy, the environment, and national security. PNNL’s Computing and Analytics Division, part of the National Security Directorate, is committed to advancing the state of the art in applied sol to support scientific discovery and our sponsors’ missions.

Software Engineering at PNNL addresses critical national and global issues by applying software engineering best practices and techniques to applied and research challenges. This position requires thought leadership and technical depth to support the development and advancement of user facing applications and solutions.

This position requires interactions with government, military, and industry officials nationwide for a variety of programs, projects, and tasks, including technical and programmatic concept development, planning, coordination, integration, and execution that can be supported by data science and deep learning techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/BA with 2 years of experience, MS/MA with 0-2 years of experience, or PhD with 0 years of experience

-OR-Relevant Associate’s degree and 6 years of relevant work experience High school diploma and 10 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or related field.

  • 2+ years of experience as a professional software developer (JavaScript, Typescript, etc.)

  • Expertise in React/Redux

  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices and software project lifecycles

  • Strong communication skills

  • Experience writing unit and integration tests

  • Proficiency with GraphQL a plus

  • Proficiency designing Restful APIs a plus

  • Experience with containers and/or Kubernetes a plus

  • Experience with cloud platforms a plus

  • An interest, curiosity and technical depth to support the development and advancement of a variety of applied problems specific to the national security community

  • The ability and the desire to learn new technologies as this is a rapidly evolving field

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Active Federal Q Clearance and ability to maintain such clearance

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.

  • Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing.
