Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking undergraduate students for assignments within the National Security Internship Program (NSIP).

Do designing, defining, and operationalizing technologies and approaches in response to complex national security problems sound exciting? Do you want to work side by side with world class sciences and engineers, and to contribute your ideas to the answers to these questions?

If you answered yes to any of these things, we want your application for an internship in the Operational Systems & Technology Division. We are looking for smart, creative and motivated students with a passion for solving complex problems, identifying solution options, and determining how solutions can be made operational for resolving national security challenges.

Positions are available in Richland WA and Seattle WA based upon business need.

Diverse Focus Areas:

  1. Global Security Technology & Policy: We work in the interface between science, technology and policy to bring solutions to the global security mission.

Disciplines of interest: Technical and Policy Anaysis, Chem and Bio, Nonproliferation, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics and the policy implications in those spaces, data analytics and security policy.

  1. Security Systems Optimization: Our focus is on critical asset protection through integrated risk analysis, optimization of security operations, and specialized training.

Disciplines of interest: Cyber Security, Chemical, Biological, Radiological or Nuclear Security, Physical Security, or Security Systems

  1. Advanced Engineered Systems: We design and deliver fieldable solutions into operational environments.

Disciplines of interest: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering/Development, Embedded Systems Engineering, Data Acquisition Systems, IOT Security

  1. Operational Readiness and Assurance: Our mission is to assure the readiness, sustainability and resilience of critical national security operations and infrastructure.

Disciplines of interest: Project management and international affairs. Power Systems Engineering, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Math and/or physics, Radiation detection instrumentation, health physics/nuclear sciences with specific experience in instrument testing, operation and maintenance, procedure development and troubleshooting.

  1. Technology Systems Integration: We lead, manage and execute domestic and international projects involving the deployment of complex technical systems.

Disciplines of interest: Systems Engineering, Project Management, Business Operations

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 3.3.

Candidates must be enrolled as a Sophomore, Junior or Senior status.

Candidates must have the ability to obtain a future security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
