Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is seeking Summer Undergraduate Interns with an interest in pursuing a career in chemistry, biochemistry, and biology. This position offers the opportunity to work with highly recognized experts in omics research. The successful candidate will support biological sample handling and processing. It will include working with samples classified at Biosafety Level I. The primary role will be assisting senior staffs with all aspects of work required to conduct large scale omics research which includes preparing reagents, pipetting, performing inventories, maintaining consumable supply levels, performing protein/peptide assays, data entry, routine maintenance, and other specific biochemical procedures. It may also include prepare small-scale biological samples for omics analysis and basic MS data processing and analysis. The candidate must be reliable and capable of working with a large and diverse group of people.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates must take college courses, such as general chemistry and general biology, basic experiences in chemistry and biology labs, basic knowledge for chromatography, basic Microsoft Excel skill for data analysis and Microsoft Word for documentation. Strong analytical, problem solving, and time management skills. Good teamwork skills and the ability to work and communicate with a large and diverse group of staff are critical.

Candidates must be degree-seeking undergraduate students in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related fields.

Chemical/hazardous safety training is required before start of the assigned lab work. Working with chemicals, operating basic lab equipment (e.g., pH meter), disposing of chemical waste properly.
