Job Description

We are looking for a motivated Cyber Security undergraduate student intern who is a technical self-starter with key credentials in computer science and cyber security for information technology (IT) and/or operational technology (OT) systems. As a Cyber Security student intern, you would participate on a team to research, create, demonstrate, evaluate, and implement concepts and enterprise level processes, in one or more of the following subject areas:

  • supply chain risk management

  • cyber risk management framework and policy

  • machine learning and artificial intelligence

  • cyber security metrics and data analysis

  • cyber situational awareness

  • energy grid and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) security

  • cloud and testbeds

  • modeling and simulation

  • cyber test and evaluation

  • cyber defense and risk mitigations

  • systems engineering and systems security engineering

  • reverse engineering

  • analysis of alternatives

  • nuclear cyber security

  • High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters

Positions are available in Richland, WA and Seattle, WA based on business need.

A 300-word essay: Essay topic - Cyber Security is a very broad career with a lot of knowledge, skills, and abilities that are required in order to perform daily tasks (see for a detailed overview). Not only do Cyber Security students need to earn a breadth of Computer Science, but they must also strive to gain some depth in areas that they are passionate about as it is impossible to be a true expert in everything. Explain what you are most passionate about or your desired specific career focus area. What have you done beyond assigned homework assignments to set yourself up for success in that career? Examples could include personal or group projects, research, or teaching yourself new skills in technology. What did you do or what problem did you try to solve, how did you go about it, were you successful, and what did you learn?


Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.

U.S. citizenship required (no dual citizenship).

Preferred Qualifications

Must have completed fundamental courses in computer science, cyber security, electrical engineering, nuclear, or related field. Proficient with Linux and Windows operating systems, virtual machines, and knowledge of computer hardware. Must possess strong technical writing skills. Ability to work on solving hard problems with a tolerance for ambiguity.

Preferred Education/Credential

  • Pursuing degrees in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear, or related fields.

  • Fluency with one or more programming languages such as C++, C#, C, Java, Assembly, Rust, SQL, Python, Ruby, and PowerShell

  • Knowledge of network security and networking protocols for Information Technology (IT) and/or Operational Technology (OT)

  • Applied experience with Cyber Security tools and software

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problem

  • Active involvement in learning or practicing Cyber Security concepts, participating in Cyber competitions

  • List any relevant research projects, publications, and presentations

  • Portfolio of example projects in the form of a short URL is desired
