Job Description

PNNL is involved in conducting world-class, impactful research and development for converting wet wastes to fuels. This position supports conducting hands-on laboratory research related to the Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) and biocrude upgrading. The incumbent will be involved in laboratory work, supporting senior staff with unit operations and sample analyses. HTL experiments are conducted in the laboratory at high temperatures (200 – 350°C) and high pressures (100 – 200 atm).

The incumbent will also be involved in data collection, entry and calculations providing these results to senior staff and project managers. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to prepare a summary reports of the summer’s activities and provide a poster or presentations summary.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.

Preferred Qualifications

The candidate will have an understanding of chemistry and chemical engineering principles. Hands-on experience in chemical laboratory is highly desired. Must have proficient oral and written communication skills, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Experience with MS OFFICE software (WORD, EXCEL, and PowerPoint in particular) is desired. Experience or chemical laboratory course is required. Desired candidate should be willing to conduct hand-on experimental research and learn the operation of chemistry analytical equipment.

Completed at least 1 year of college in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering program with course work including chemistry, chemistry laboratory, and math.

3.0 GPA or higher is preferred
