Responsibilities and Accountabilities :
The Disruptive Technology group focuses on emerging technologies by integrating capability across electromagnetics, systems modeling, communications, analytics development, and systems design to serve as a flywheel for feeding technology advancements across the division and laboratory. Projects within the group range from mission focused, highly applied projects in support of national security to fundamental science projects.
This position will provide software engineering in support of efforts predominantly focused on developing innovative software in support of sensor systems for detecting, locating, and identifying radioactive material. Critical characteristics to the operation and measurement of complex systems are automation, data acquisition, graphical user interfaces, along with on-board and post data analysis. The Disruptive Technology Group at PNNL is on the forefront of technology development, specifically electronics and software development, in support of a broad range of sensor systems. The research group seeking to fill this position supports a number of critical national security and homeland security missions, missions relating to environmental monitoring and restoration, and industrial technology development. Independently and in collaboration with project teams, the incumbent will support a range of U.S. Government and private clients through the development of software for sensor systems that support scientific and national security objectives.

A contributing professional; applies basic theories, principals, methods, tools and technologies to well-defined assignments of limited scope. Performs basic science and engineering tasks and activities with minimal oversight. Works to broaden and deepen own technical knowledge and skills.
May contribute to technical content of proposals. Individual will market self through excellent performance on projects
Builds and maintains effective internal relationships on individual or team level. Contributes and supports peers in technical area as an individual contributor.
Implementation of analysis and algorithms in software for measurement systems
Design of graphical user interfaces for various applications
Development of control software for various sensor systems
Testing and debugging of software related to analysis and system development
Apply current and new software technologies to mission areas including national and homeland security, environmental monitoring and restoration, and industry
Collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams
Level I : Requires conceptual knowledge of scientific or engineering theories, practices and procedures within specialization. Takes initiative to set personal direction and goals. Builds and maintains effective internal relationships on individual or team level. Work is conducted with a high standard of quality, safety, and security.
- BS/BA with 0-1 years of experience MS/MA with 0 years of experience.
The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of Java or C++ and be confident with software engineering work flows using version control, code review, and continuous integration tools.
Effective written and oral communication is required for this position as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively on diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
The candidate must be an effective problem solver, should be creative, and must demonstrate the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced loosely-structured organization under conditions of minimal guidance and problem definition.
