Job Description

PNNL is seeking to find talented software engineers who are passionate about development in one or more of the following areas:

Front-end developer – developing novel web-based user interfaces using modern tools and frameworks such as React & Redux.

Software Systems Engineering – bringing a systems perspective to delivering full-stack software-centric applications built on SharePoint using a variety of programming languages, technologies, and development frameworks

These engineers will work in teams to design, code, test, debug, and implement software applications in SharePoint in support of research and engineering. Candidates will work with various computer technologies, on various platforms and developers must be conversant about their features. They must be able to work on Windows systems. They should understand a mix of technologies such as C#, .Net, React, or Javascript. Should possess basic computer knowledge to design and customize programs for various systems and platforms.


  • Design, develop, document, test and debug new and existing software systems, web interfaces, and/or applications in SharePoint.

  • Work in tandem with our talented User Experience team to develop novel web-based User Interfaces using modern JavaScript/React libraries and frameworks

  • Implement back-end services or SharePoint add-ins in C# connecting to various data sources in support of User Interfaces or larger software systems

  • Leverage cloud technologies for software delivery


  • Apply knowledge of software engineering practices (e.g. source control, problem tracking, design principles, etc.) with minimal oversight

  • Take initiative to set personal direction and goals

  • Work collaboratively within a team to execute on the full system development life cycle

In Research Computing, the Software team works with our Researchers to develop web applications that help them collaborate on their research, manage projects, share their findings, and much more.

Sharepoint Developer level 2:

Receives guidance on new assignments, making preliminary selections on technical alternatives; independently completes recurring assignments. Defines and leads project work at a small task/project level, reporting results on time and on budget. Building networks at a local and capability level. Effectively teaming to share resources and optimize research and development at the group and division level.

Sharepoint Developer level 3:

Developing and optimizing capabilities at the division level. Developing external reputation. Building effective project teams with membership across a group, S&E domain and/or directorate. Contributing to the local organization through mentorship of junior staff and taking on operational assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/BA with 2+ years of experience MS/MA with 0 years of experience PhD with 0 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/BA with 5 years of experience MS/MA with 3 years of experience PhD with 1 year of experience

  • Experience actually using/writing

  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/React.

  • 4+ years developing for SharePoint, or similar content management system like Microsoft Dynamics CRM

  • C# .NET

  • API calls.

  • Familiarity with

  • Scrum and Agile development principles

  • Git source control

  • Bonus points if you have:

  • Worked with SharePoint online or Azure.
