This role is about leveraging technology by utilizing dynamic and innovative solutions with a simple and focused mission around building, improving, and maintaining IT systems and applications for PNNL’s Software Engineering Division. The position will enable cross team collaboration on the design and implementation of solutions to meet the needs of the laboratory. The position will be accountable for the vision, direction, and implementation of Software Engineering architectural principles and fundamental building blocks for use in developing solutions necessary for major improvements and new developments.

Demonstrate technical and people leadership as part of an agile development team that delivers incremental features to a wide range of products;
Collaborate effectively on diverse teams (e.g., Portfolio / Project managers, domain experts, users, and software engineering team) to design and deploy innovative business information systems across the enterprise;
Provide individual and collaborative contributions to software development projects across a broad range of technologies and subject areas;
Utilize software engineering best practices through the entire software development lifecycle and recommend changes in development, maintenance, and system standards;

The hiring level will be determined based on the education, experience and skill set of the successful candidate based on the following:
Senior Software Engineer / Team Leader level 3:
- Demonstrating specialization in at least one related technical domain and setting technical direction within the team.
Senior Software Engineer / Team Leader level 4:
- Expert in at least one domain and the ability to connect multiple domains. Demonstrate ability to provide leadership and set technical direction across multiple teams.
- BS/BA with 5 years of experience MS/MA with 3 years of experience, or PhD with 1 year of experience. A high school diploma or GED plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the required degree.
Senior Software Engineer / Team Lead level 4: BS/BA with 7 years of experience MS/MA with 5 years of experience, or PhD with 3 years of experience. A high school diploma or GED plus a minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the required degree.
Experience managing software engineering teams
Experience leading interviewing and hiring activities for software engineering staff and/or contract positions
Experience developing with React/Redux
Experience with containers and contrainer orchestration platforms
Experience with the following tools (Jira, Confluence, Visual Studio)
Experience developing systems using Clean Architecture, Domain Driven Design, and Event Driven Architecture
Experience leveraging Agile methodologies especially Scrum
Experience with Cloud Native Development (Azure)
Experience developing APIs and RESTful Web Services
Experience with iterative development practices such as Agile or Scrum
Experience in the development of complex software systems using industry best practices
Knowledge and experience in applying software design patterns
Knowledge and experience in applying layered architecture patterns
Knowledge of secure coding best practices
Experience with DevOps, Automation, and Continuous Integration and Delivery tools and practices
Exceptional communicator with both technical and nontechnical audiences
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead and motivate technical teams
Customer service oriented and approachable
Deliver results with highest level of professionalism and integrity
Passionate about mentoring and developing staff
Experience with creating automated unit tests
Knowledge of cloud development services and technologies
