Job Description

The Chemical Biology and Exposure Science Team within the Biological Sciences Division at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking a senior research scientist to contribute to emerging research programs in the genomic basis for human resilience to disease, and environmental and physical stress. The candidate would join a large, highly collaborative, collegial group of scientists in the fields of chemical biology, computational biology, computational chemistry, panomics, bioinformatics, toxicology and infectious disease. Candidates are expected to have a PhD in chemistry, genetics, biological engineering, related field with 5 years of post-graduate experience in human genomics (emphasis on disease, toxicity or exposure susceptibility) or exposomics. Ideal candidates have experience in developing and using genomic tools common to precision medicine. Relevant experience includes experience in sequencing, sequence analysis, and other genomic or computational tools to identify genetic mechanisms of susceptibility to chemical, physical and social exposures or expertise in the use of similar tools to assess exposures and responses to exposures in human populations. While competency in modern data analytics tools are important, experience in the design and conduct of human studies is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

BS/BA with 7 years of experience; MS/MA with 5 years of experience; PhD with 3 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirement : PhD in genetics, toxicology, biological engineering, or similar discipline with at least 5 years of post-graduate experience in the genetics of human susceptibility to disease and or exposures.

Technical Expertise : Skilled professional. Applies, on a broad basis, existing theories, principles, and concepts within the field(s) of toxicology, biological engineering, and/or chemical engineering.

Level of Responsibility : Fully competent in all conventional applications of knowledge common in the field(s) of toxicology, genetics, exposure science, and function of work assigned. Principle Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on projects or tasks.

Breadth of Technical Knowledge : Proactively stays abreast of leading developments the field, and leads externally in the development new scientific directions. Maintains skills consistent with state of the art.
