Job Description

The Chemical Biology and Exposure Science Team within the Biological Sciences Division at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking a senior research scientist to contribute and help build emerging research programs in in human exposure, toxicology and precision medicine. Candidates are expected to have a PhD in chemistry, analytical chemistry, genetics, biological engineering, toxicology or related field with 5 years of post-graduate experience in applying proteomics or metabolomics to biological problems (emphasis on disease, toxicity or exposure susceptibility). Ideal candidates have strong experience in analytical chemistry and competency in modern data analytics and bioinformatics tools. Experience in the design and conduct of human studies is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Education Requirement: BS/BA with 7 years of experience; MS/MA with 5 years of experience; PhD with 3 years of experience

  • PhD in chemistry, analytical chemistry, genetics, toxicology, or similar discipline with at least 5 years of post-graduate experience in human exposure assessment, exposomics, and/genetics of human susceptibility to disease and toxicant exposures.

  • Technical Expertise: Skilled professional. Applies, on a broad basis, existing theories, principles, and concepts within the field(s) of analytical chemistry, chemistry, toxicology, and/or bioinformatics

  • Level of Responsibility: Principle Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on projects or tasks. Fully competent in all conventional applications of knowledge common in the field(s) of toxicology, genetics, exposure science.

  • Breadth of Technical Knowledge: Proactively stays abreast of leading developments the field, and leads externally in the development new scientific directions. Maintains skills consistent with state of the art.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading the development of scientific programs and grant writing.

  • Due to the collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of work at PNNL, strong communication skills and ability to work both independently as well as in a group setting with collaborators and others is necessary.

  • Demonstrated evidence of the ability author peer-reviewed publications.
