As a leader in national security, we steward longstanding capabilities in the production of nuclear materials and modeling of nuclear systems to support our nuclear deterrent and to counter proliferation of nuclear weapons. We are searching for a Nuclear Engineer with expertise in science and technologies of interest to the US national security enterprise, and the domestic and international collaborations that support the enterprise.

We invite you to become part of the Signatures Science & Technology Division. Our mission is to discover the science, develop the technology, and drive operations to neutralize emerging national security threats. Through this mission we strive to:

Our staff are expanding the nation’s capabilities in the science and engineering related to material production and nuclear non-proliferation. A significant portion of our work supports the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Office of Defense Programs, which is responsible for maintaining and modernizing our nuclear weapons stockpile. We also support programs in nuclear nonproliferation and in the development of advanced nuclear fuels for research reactors, current commercial reactors, a new generation of advanced reactors, and DoD mobile and small nuclear power plants.

The successful incumbent will have demonstrated technical leadership in conducting research, performing technical evaluations, briefing technical issues to senior leaders, and working to build stronger collaborations between organizations across the national security enterprise.

  • Experience with turning data into empirical models and using data to validate modeling and simulation tools

  • Applied experience with machine learning tools and techniques to support experimental sciences, for example nuclear material processing

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, and to lead R&D programs

  • Experience in operationalizing new technologies in support of national security objectives

  • Experience in performing and leading technical evaluations of R&D performed by others

  • Demonstrated competence in communicating technical issues to senior leaders
