The Functional and Systems Biology Group in the Environmental Molecular Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a scientist with expertise in single molecule and super resolution fluorescence-based imaging approaches and their applications to study molecular processes in living cells. In particular, expertise in single molecule fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) techniques and the use of single molecule localization-based imaging in intact cells or tissues are of interest. The successful candidate will join a growing team of PNNL scientists interested in single cell analysis and contribute to new and existing projects targeted at both medical research funded by NIH and bioenergy and environmental research funded by DOE.
The hiring level will be determined based on the education, experience and skill set of the successful candidate based on the following:
Level 2: Leads specific tasks of the project to meet scope, schedule and budget. Expected to contribute professionally, building a professional reputation for technical expertise. Fully applying and interpreting standard theories, principles, methods, tools and technologies. Contributes technical content to proposals and develops business through excellent project performance.
Level 3: Manages small to moderate projects and/or major project tasks. Integrates intellectual and technical capabilities of work teams. Enhances technical/professional skills of junior staff through active mentoring and training. Generates ideas for new proposals and participates in business development activities

PhD or MS/MA, or BA/BS with 2+ years of experience in cellular or molecular biology, biomedical engineering, biophysics or related fields.
Expertise in high resolution quantitative fluorescence imaging techniques in living cells
Experience in data analysis using imaging and statistics software, such as MATLAB
Strong publication record in refereed journals
Strong oral and written communication skills
PhD with 1+ year, or MS/MA with 3+ years, or BA/BS with 5+ years of experience in cellular or molecular biology, biomedical engineering, biophysics or related fields. Strong preference for candidates with PhD with 3+ years of experience.
Successful history of initiating and leading research projects.
Experience in writing research grant proposals to funding agencies such as NIH or DOE
Demonstrated experience initiating projects, planning, and working independently to complete projects. Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
Computer skills, including word processing, web searching, database entry, spreadsheet and/or database creation.
Able to work under pressure of deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing priorities.
