Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high caliber sophomore, junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the Student Research Apprenticeship Program (SRAP). This summer internship is a research-based experience for students who are sophomore, juniors or seniors and/or students traditionally underrepresented in science and engineering.

Working with large datasets to obtain biological conclusions. This will include analysis of transcriptomic data, analysis of pathways from differentially expressed genes and statistical analysis of datasets. The main focus of the position will be computational work and some biological interpretation. Applicant should be comfortable with large data files and working with and learning in about tools for biological analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior in a public or private high school at time of application.

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age by June 2018.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).


Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Course Work Desired: Biology Computer Science

Computer Skills Desired: Programming basics Knowledge of R Knowledge of Python Knowledge of Linux Handling of large data files Familiarity with Windows and Mac

Other Desired Skills: Interest in molecular biology and computational analysis of data Ability to follow direction Desire to complete a project Comfortable working as a team and contributing while taking feedback Drive to take the next step in analysis
