Job Description

Provides day-to-day program coordination and support for the suite of K-20 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education efforts offered by PNNL. Coordinate and support a broad set of pre-college and higher education projects, programs and partnerships, designed to catalyze improvement in STEM education. Assist in the design, implementation and evaluation for Laboratory-based immersion experiences, career enrichment/planning activities, mentoring, etc. Assist in the development and assessment of professional learning opportunities for K-12 teachers and college faculty focused on enhancement of content knowledge, STEM education practices and understandings about the nature of science and engineering. Engages and/or leads the design, implementation, and research efforts related to PNNL impacts on work-based learning, teacher and STEM education reform initiatives. Promotes PNNL’s STEM education value to internal and external audiences, develops and drives STEM initiatives, and helps build PNNL’s reputation as a strategic business partner. Engages and/or leads efforts related to program policies and procedures, special programs, and outreach to key stakeholders.

Discipline, principal job duties/expectations, and qualitative and quantitative measures of performance that exceed the Functional Descriptor:

• Experience developing and facilitating professional development workshops and/or student enrichment activities, to include evaluation tools and methods

• Ability to lead inter-disciplinary teams, comprised of STEM education and other professionals, dealing with issues that require expertise and participation from different areas.

• Expert knowledge/skills in STEM education leadership, work-based learning, professional development of educators, STEM education research and National Laboratories, and STEM education project/program management

• Demonstrate the ability to build consensus by articulating the strategic alignment of the organization to both internal and external goals for STEM education on local to national projects. Functions as a STEM education project lead in such areas as student workforce development, professional learning of educators, and key initiatives, partnerships and outreach efforts

• Ability to lead and provide direction and/or influence external actors to take action to achieve the organization's goals for STEM education and work-based learning.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM) education (pre-college and/or post-secondary), leadership development, work based learning, student development programs or related field. Advanced degree and 8+ years of relevant experience in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM) education (pre-college and/or post-secondary), leadership development, work based learning, student development programs or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expert knowledge/skills in STEM education leadership, work-based learning, professional development of educators, STEM education research and National Laboratories, and STEM education project/program management

• Relevant experiences in the areas of STEM education policy, program, practice, leadership and partnerships, across the K-20 continuum are preferred.

• Demonstrated proficiency with program evaluation methods, and a constant desire to improve and amplify efforts of the Office of STEM Education.

• Interest in diversity and inclusion while accelerating STEM education for all.

• Excellent oral and writing skills relevant to business and proposal development
