Job Description

The Pacific Northwest National Lab is looking for a Principal Recruiter to join a talented Recruiting team located in Richland, WA. The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is advancing the frontiers of science and addressing some of the most challenging problems in energy, the environment, national security, and fundamental sciences. It’s these advancements today that will bring about big changes for tomorrow – in our nation and world.

The Principal Recruiter partners with senior leaders and management to develop the acquisition elements of a Talent Management Strategy to meet the current and future needs of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The Principal Recruiter coordinates with team members and hiring managers to identify and match candidates to specific needs; performing all aspects of recruiting activities for both internal and external positions (sourcing, screening, interviewing, selection, negotiation and closing); utilizes a variety of effective sourcing techniques; works with compensation team to make salary recommendations; works to achieve metrics and goals including quality of applicant pools, diversity, number of hires, and time-to-fill; represents the Laboratory at recruiting and diversity events; ensures compliance with all applicable employment laws and policies; develops and manages effective working relationships with Managers, HR staff, and staff throughout the Laboratory; provides direction/guidance to an HR Assistant in the course of performing various recruiting services, and travel as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of relevant experience. Advanced degree and 8+ years of relevant experience

  • Must be able to develop robust, multi-channel search strategy and find unique talent

  • Ability to identify and engage candidates with a specialized and often rare skill set

  • Develop prospects into candidates, engaging them and performing assessments/screening and presenting candidates to executive leadership

  • Skilled negotiator with attention to detail

  • Ability to influence talent acquisition policy and enhance business results

  • Focuses on the customer and serves as an advisor to hiring managers to execute staffing needs

  • Skilled at identifying new sources of talent that enhance the diversity of the applicant pool

  • Innovative and collaborative use of technology and recruitment resources to attract top talent to PNNL

  • Exhibits research acumen and creativity. Ability to learn new technology and business areas quickly and craft effective search strategies within those areas

  • Leads effectively and approaches challenges with courage to deliver highest-value impact to the customer

  • Able to handle confidential information and sensitive situations with full integrity

  • Excellent listener, able to provide and receive feedback and direction

  • Ability to match pace with fluctuating hiring needs without sacrificing quality

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as a team leader and member

Preferred Qualifications

  • Agency recruiting experience

  • Thinks strategically but stays on top of tactical execution
