This position is responsible for providing electrical engineering expertise including engineering studies, preliminary, and conceptual and detailed design, calculations, troubleshooting, preparation of contract documents included drawings and specifications, construction oversight, and filed inspections for all Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) facilities. This position applies engineering knowledge and methods for the accomplishment of electrical engineering work assigned to the Engineering Department, which will also include research and development support.
Holds, maintains, and develops PNNL’s Power System Study Modeling (PSSM) and Report (PSSR) Expertise
Maintains IEEE 1584 Expertise and serves as a resource for the Laboratory
Represents the Laboratory during Assessments of the PSSR results and deployment
Provides expertise to Research in AC Arc-Flash and the developing field of DC Arc-Flash evaluations
Responsible for incorporating the Underrated Electrical Notable facility evaluations and modifications
Responsible for updating existing Power System Study Models and Reports to incorporate the continuous changes to facility electrical systems in support of laboratory and facility modification and renovations
Comprehensively updates the facility PSSM and PSSR every 5-years
Has an established technical expertise, serves as a resource to F&O and the Lab.
Manages and prepares technically complex electrical design engineering activities and projects.
Routinely functions as a lead project engineer, coordinating and managing the activities of other staff.
Provides direction to junior engineering staff, designers, and drafters.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical engineering and 15+ years of relevant experience. Advanced degree and 13+ years of relevant experience
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
Experienced Electrical Power System using SKM modeling software
15+ years of building electrical system design experience
Experience in NFPA 70E
Experience applying IEEE 1584-2018
Experience in DC Arc Flash hazard evaluations¿
Experience in lighting design and lighting controls
Experience in NFPA 72 fire alarm control system design
Experience with direct digital Facility Management Control System design (HVAC system control)
Experience in a multidiscipline engineering setting¿
LEED or equivalent DOE High Performance Sustainable Building Standard experience
AutoCAD or REVIT design and drafting skills, MS Office Software skills
