The successful candidate will support cryogenic and in situ Transmission Electron Microscopy development at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) using our JEOL GrandARM. In situ analysis of materials undergoing transformations is important for programs focusing on corrosion and environmental management. The successful candidate will be expected to develop techniques and protocols for use of specialized TEM holders, working with characterization of materials under actual conditions of use, phase transitions, and corrosion processes. The successful candidate will interact closely with a number of projects across the PNNL Richland campus to develop these capabilities. The candidate must have an expert level of proficiency in Transmission Electron Microscopy and a strong scientific track record. The successful candidate will be encouraged to propose, plan and conduct their own related research.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
• Ph.D. in materials science, chemistry, physics, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience in Transmission Electron Microscopy, with cryo-EM or liquid cell microscopy.
• Demonstrated skills and proficiency in one of the following areas: cryo-EM or liquid cell TEM.
• Experience in the use of aberration-corrected TEM.
• Experience in programming and scripting for analysis of in situ and imaging data sets.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
3.50 GPA or higher preferred.
