Job Description

The candidate for this position will develop novel methods to assimilate multiple types of observational data to inform real-world watershed hydrologic and biogeochemical models. This position will require data analyses and visualization, data assimilation, inverse modeling, uncertainty quantification, and sensitivity analyses. Successful candidates will work with a multi-disciplinary team of computational and experimental scientists focused on understanding how the watershed hydrology and nutrient cycling are impacted by the hydrologic exchanges between the surface water and groundwater in a large dynamic river corridor.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD in Geoscience, Hydrology, Biogeochemistry, Engineering (Civil, Geological, or Environmental), or related field within the past five years from an accredited college or university by the time of employment.

The candidate must have (1) a background in watershed hydrology, geohydrology, or biogeochemical modeling; (2) experience in model calibration, inverse modeling, or data assimilation; and (3) excellent written and oral communication skills as evidenced by publications in top-tier journals and presentations at professional conferences.

Candidates that demonstrate any or all of the following are preferred: (1) strong skills in statistical data analysis, machine learning, and post-analysis and visualization of complex simulation results; (2) experience implementing inverse modeling or data assimilation on a multi-physics numerical model; (3) Fluency with R, Python, Jupyter Notebook; (4) experience using PFLOTRAN, WRF-Hydro, CLM, or equivalent in Linux environment.
