The post-doctoral fellow will work with a project team to advance the representations of turbulence and shallow cloud processes at a few kilometers grid spacings. The parameterization development and evaluation will be guided by observations and large-eddy simulations.

The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in turbulence processes and parameterizing turbulence at both climate and weather models. Proficiency with FORTRAN and coding experience in atmospheric modeling are required, and the ability to modify and run large-eddy and cloud resolving model simulations is desirable. Teamwork and strong communication skills for engaging with project teams at PNNL and the broader climate research community are also essential.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in relevant field is required with strong experience/background in (1) understanding and parameterizing turbulence and cloud processes, (2) FORTRAN proficiency and ability to modify and run 3-D large-eddy and cloud resolving model simulations, and (3) use observational techniques and data to understand and improve turbulence parameterization.

A successful candidate will also need:¿

  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills¿
