Job Description

The Environmental Molecular Division seeks a scientist focused in the area of scientific applications of advanced mass spectrometry (MS) particularly to the field of natural organic matter characterization and elucidation of microbial processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new sampling protocols for the analysis of organic matter from a variety of environmental matrices, understanding biases in extraction and analysis, aiding in the development of a suite of analytical approaches, including MS, NMR and omics, and contributing to the development of data analysis/visualization/integration workflows. The candidate will be responsible for engaging and supporting users from the EMSL user facility with the generation, analysis and interpretation of SOM related data.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Microbiology or related discipline

Demonstrated experience in developing and applying MS instrumentation as evidenced by a record of peer-reviewed publications.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience using FTICR or Orbitrap MS instruments and a research background in carbon cycling in the terrestrial ecosystem and demonstrated knowledge of organic chemistry.

The candidate must have a record of accomplishment in the development and/or applications of mass spectrometry instrumentations/methodology, including expertise in FTMS, vacuum system design and control, data acquisition, processing and analysis.

Must be a skilled professional who applies a broad basis of existing theories, principles, and concepts to a specialty field.

Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
