Job Description

The Environmental Molecular Sciences Division and Biological Science Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks for an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral position working on projects associated with biological applications of high-throughput single-cell proteomics.

PNNL is a leading institution on single-cell and near single-cell proteomics (Zhu et al. Nature Comm. 2018, 882; Zhu et al. Elife, 2019, e50777; Piehowski, et al. Nature Comm. 2020, 8). PNNL is also part of an NIH-funded consortium focused on multiomics tissue mapping (LungMAP) and an NSF-funded project focused on symbiotic nitrogen fixation.

The candidate will have the opportunity to learn and apply cutting-edge microfluidics and mass spectrometry technologies developed in PNNL to profile the proteome of extremely small-samples (e.g. laser-microdissected tissues and single cells). The candidate will use these methodologies to uncover complex biological systems occurring during the development of the lung, as well as soybean nodulation process. The candidate will be responsible for research design, sample preparation, LC-MS method optimization, and data analysis. The candidate will join a highly collaborative environment and project team with diverse expertise.

The candidate should have a record of accomplishment in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and relevant chemistry or biology areas. The candidate should have experience in technologies and applications of single-cell omics (e.g. single-cell RNA-seq). While direct experiences in proteomics and mass spectrometry will be ideal, these experiences are not required. The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, think critically, operate productively in a fast-paced academic environment are required.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Omics data processing and visualization skills using R, python, or other tools will be a plus.

Preferred Education/Credential:

Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Computational biology or related field.
