Job Description

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a creative postdoctoral researcher for research related to analyzing and modeling regional climate and hydroclimate over the United States in the historical and future periods under observed projected environmental and socio-economic change, as well as how such changes would influence terrestrial hydrology, energy supply and consumptions, ecosystem dynamics and other sectors using a multi-scale modeling approach. The selected candidate is expected to join an interdisciplinary team aiming at developing a flexible and extensible modeling framework to study the vulnerability and resilience of coupled human and natural systems from local to continental scales under scenarios that include short-term shocks, long-term stresses, and feedbacks associated with human decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. Atmospheric Sciences, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, Ecology, or related fields is required. Candidates with experience in (1) regional and global climate modeling (e.g., WRF or CESM); (2) fluency in one or more programming and scripting languages (e.g., FORTRAN, C, C++, bash, perl, python); (3) fluency with LINUX operating system and parallel programming paradigms on high-performance computers; and (4) statistical data analysis tools and methods for handing large datasets are strongly preferred;. Because visible scientific accomplishments are key to the success of our project team, the candidate must have demonstrated excellent communication skills as evidenced by publications in top-tier journals and presentations at professional conferences.
