Job Description

Postdoctoral research associate position is available at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for investigating cellular and molecular mechanisms in single cells or tissue sections using quantitative fluorescence microscopy techniques, such as single molecule and super resolution fluorescence, combined with cellular and molecular biology techniques. The research will be focused mainly on single cell analysis to better understand processes at the interface between nanomaterial and the living cell, as well as processes underlying cell abnormalities in certain diseases. The work will be performed at the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL), a DOE national scientific user facility, and will also include working with EMSL Users on systems such as plant tissue, microbial or fungal cells. A Ph.D. degree in biophysics, molecular and cellular biology or related disciplines is required. Qualified candidates will have prior experience in quantitative fluorescence microscopy techniques such as single molecule and super resolution fluorescence techniques, as well as practice with data analysis using imaging and statistics software, such as MATLAB. Additional required skills include the ability to collaborate effectively on teams; excellent oral and written communication skills; creative/innovative thinking. Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have experience in the design and execution of cellular and molecular studies in intact cells or tissue sections using quantitative fluorescence microscopy techniques, such as single molecule and super resolution fluorescence techniques, as well as in fluorescence tagging of cellular components and image analysis and statistics software, such as MATLAB. A strong publication record is highly desired.

Preferred Education/Credential:

A Ph.D. degree in biophysics, biomedical engineering, molecular and cellular biology or related disciplines is required.
