Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is seeking a post-doctoral research associate to work with a world class group in the application of mass spectrometry to the characterization of environmental samples. The position involves the proteomic characterization of microbes and microbiomes from a diverse set of environmental systems including soil, rhizosphere, and other natural systems.

We have a dynamic, world-class high performance environmental mass spectrometry group and this would be a fantastic opportunity for self-motivated individuals who want to continue learning and developing leading edge techniques and applications. The candidate must have a record of accomplishment in analytical chemistry and biology, or closely related areas. General experience and knowledge in mass spectrometry instrumentation, biological and chemical processes and experience in analysis of complex biological datasets is a plus. The candidate should possess good oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. The results of the successful candidate's work will be used to generate new intellectual property, peer-reviewed publications, presentations at national conferences, and new research proposals. Maintenance of laboratory equipment, organization, working conditions, and an accurate laboratory notebook are expected in addition to implementation of Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) Operations and security requirements, and directorate/group policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have a background in proteomic techniques for the characterization of microbiomes, good knowledge of metagenomic analysis pipelines and a strong background knowledge in microbiology or microbial ecology. The individual must possess good data analysis skills and a computational background is a plus.

Ph.D. in Biology or Chemistry.
