Job Description

The proteomics group at the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking highly motivated candidates for a postdoctoral position supporting development and deployment of top down and native mass spectrometry methods to study protein structure and function.

The candidate will have the opportunity to master and advance cutting-edge Fourier-Transform Mass Spectrometry to characterize proteoforms and their higher-order structures. The candidate will use these methodologies to uncover complex biology in diverse systems relevant to environmental and human health research. The candidate will be responsible for research design, sample preparation, LCMS and/or MS imaging method optimization, and data analysis. The candidate will join a highly collaborative environment and project team with diverse expertise and have a unique opportunity to interface with interdisciplinary teams, including cryo-electron microscopy and computational capabilities, to support the realization of “visual proteomics” vision.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have basic knowledge or working experience of analytical instrumentation including mass spectrometry and chromatography. Previous experience with instrument modification or development is preferred. Knowledge in glycosylation or other post-translational modifications will be considered as a plus. Experience with top down mass spectrometry and/or native mass spectrometry and or mass spectrometry imaging is preferable but not required. The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, think critically, operate productively in a fast-paced academic environment are required.

PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics or related field.
