Contribute to PNNL’s goals in scalable synthesis of materials, chemicals, and biological systems as part of the Lab’s Advanced Computing, Mathematics and Data Division (ACMDD). As a postdoctoral researcher, you’ll join a talented, diverse team to make a scientific impact in predicting and controlling behavior of complex engineered and natural systems using Multiphysics and multiscale modeling techniques. You’ll be mentored by a (Senior) Scientist in the Computational Mathematics Group, as you refine your talent in computational (solid/fluid) mechanics, multi-scale modeling, and multi-physics simulations.

What you’ll do:
• Develop physics-based Multiscale Multiphysics computational tools for including advanced energy storage systems. Background in electrochemistry, fluid/solid mechanics, heat/mass transport, and energy storage system modeling is highly desired.
• Publish results and capability development in high quality, peer-reviewed journals
• Interact, communicate, and problem solve with a diverse team of computational and experimental research staff within the ACMDD group and across PNNL
• Present research at technical conferences and project/program review meetings
• Participate in the development of research proposals
• Extend or develop fundamental understanding of physics, and novel applications to problems critical for national interests

Ph.D. in mechanical/civil/chemical engineering, applied mechanics or related fields
Training and aptitude in applied mathematics and computational fluid mechanics and/or solid mechanics
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Strong computational skills and theoretical background in computational fluids dynamics and solid mechanics, electrochemistry and energy storage system.
Familiar with commercial simulation packages such as ABAQUS/ANSYS/Star CCM/COMSOL and open source tools OpenFOAM etc.
Strong verbal and written communications skills
