Disruptive Technology (DT) group focuses on emerging technologies by integrating capability across electromagnetics, systems modeling, communications, analytics development, and systems design to serve as a flywheel for feeding technology advancements across the division and laboratory. Projects within the group range from mission focused, highly applied projects in support of national security to fundamental science projects.
The Data-driven Technologies Team with the DT group is seeking a post-doctoral candidate with a PhD in Materials Scientist, Chemical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related discipline to contribute to research and development of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in automated materials discovery, advanced manufacturing, or materials modeling and simulation. Candidates with experience in other aspects of data-driven materials science will also be considered. The position will be focused on supporting and directing ongoing efforts in the development of modern data science techniques designed to reduce the time required to discover new materials, processing methods, and/or treatments for enhanced performance.

The abilities to multitask and to work both independently and as part of a team are essential. A demonstrated ability to analyze data and publish results is required.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at scientific conferences
Excellent problem-solving and data analysis skills
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively on diverse teams
Demonstrated technical aptitude in solid mechanics, continuum mechanics, finite element methods, phase field methods, and/or computational fluid dynamics
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- A Ph.D. in Materials Scientist, Chemical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related discipline. A cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher is preferred.

Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
