The Applied Physics Group is seeking a post-doctoral research associate to support research and development in infrared spectrometry with a focus on quantitative infrared spectroscopy, refractive indices calculations, infrared laser systems and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The position will involve Fourier transform infrared measurements to determine the refractive indices n and k., other Fourier Transform single-angle methods, ellipsometry, simple transmission measurements or the use of BRDF methods to determine the complex refractive indices. The position also involves the handling of a wide array of chemicals and subsequent preparation for analysis, as well as post measurement data analysis.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
The qualified candidate must have an academic background in physical chemistry, chemical physics, optics or related field, with an emphasis on infrared spectrometry. The position requires a solid understanding of sample preparation for spectrometric analysis, infrared spectral data interpretation, and a strong background in optical instrumentation. Past experience in this area is required.
Ph.D. in physical chemistry, chemical physics, optics or related field with a research emphasis on infrared spectrometry, and demonstrated experience in quantitative infrared spectroscopy, refractive indices calculations, infrared laser systems or Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The ideal candidate will have both theoretical and experimental background experience, as well as familiarity with data analysis and report writing software, e.g. IGOR, LabView, OPUS, MS Office suite, etc. Cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher preferred.

Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
