Job Description

The High-Performance Computing (HPC) Group at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a post-doctoral researcher to participate in the research and development of one or more of the following areas: scalable approaches for the design and development of system software and runtime systems for different classes of applications (examples include Machine Learning, graph analytics, and multi-physics simulations) targeting extreme-scale heterogeneous systems; modeling of large-scale HPC system architectures and software environments; optimization problems including multi-objective optimization in the area of characterizing and modeling the performance of HPC applications and runtime resource management using analytical, statistical, and Machine Learning techniques; compiler frameworks targeting heterogeneous architectures; and, application of scalable tools to domain problems in cybersecurity, earth system science, life sciences, computational chemistry, materials science, and multi-scale physics. These areas are critical to the computing strategy of the laboratory and involve broad opportunities for cross-cutting research and high visibility within the HPC community.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities include:

  • Conduct technical research in areas of interest to impacted projects

  • Publish results in high visible, peer-reviewed venues (e.g., conferences and journals)

  • Interact with internal and external research staff and domain scientists for collaboration purposes

  • Participate in and potentially lead technical presentations on the work

  • Participate in team meetings and potentially interact with funding sponsors

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.

  • Experience with high-performance computing, parallel computing, computer architecture, compilers, system software

  • Strong peer-reviewed publication track record in HPC or related area
