We are looking for strongly motivated candidates with excellent skills in data science with keen interest in multidisciplinary research relating to machine learning, chemical and physical modeling, and materials science. The selected candidate(s) will join the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, WA and will work in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of research staff including data scientists, material scientist, mathematicians, and engineers. The candidate will support several exciting projects designed to accelerate the discovery of materials for improved energy storage efficiency and battery material technologies. Examples of specific research tools under development include novel techniques for data extraction, data fusion, representation learning, generative modeling, uncertainty quantification, active learning, and incorporating physical and chemical knowledge and constraints into machine learning systems.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Effective written and oral communication is required
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively on diverse teams are required.
Record of research accomplishments in peer-reviewed publications required.
Proven ability to work independently and to quickly adapt to new scientific environments.
Ph.D. in computer science, computational chemistry/physics/materials science, applied mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
Background includes knowledge of chemistry, materials science, physics, or related domains and experience applying machine learning and/or deep learning in these domains.
Experience with a wide range of machine learning algorithms and approaches (unsupervised/supervised/reinforcement learning, deep learning, generative models, etc.).
Strong programming capabilities and experience with common machine learning and deep learning libraries (Keras, PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
