Job Description

Contribute to PNNL’s goals in Computational Thermodynamics as part of the Lab’s Advanced Computational, Mathematic, and Data Division (ACMDD). As a postdoctoral researcher in the Computational Engineering Group, you will join a talented, multi-investigator team to explore modeling of thermodynamics and phase changes in operating regimes away from equilibrium. You will work with a dynamic group of modeling experts from different backgrounds and utilizing multiple techniques (such as phase field, finite elements, and molecular dynamics) to expand and improve our ability to understand, control, and predict the formation of metastable phases. You will also interact with experimentalist developing new measurement techniques to support, measure, and validate modeling parameters and predictions.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in materials science or related field

  • Integrated first-principles calculations and computational modeling experience

  • Experience developing and using computational thermodynamics models and integration with phase field or finite element calculations

  • Experience using Thermo-Calc or related thermodynamics software packages

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to conduct independent research

  • Be able to interact, communicate, and problem solve with a diverse team of modelers and experimentalists
