Organization and Job ID

Job ID: 310707

Directorate: Earth & Biological Sciences

Division: Biologial Sciences

Group: Biostructure & Function

Job Description

Applicants are sought for postdoctoral research associate positions to investigate the structure, function, dynamics, and interactions of biologically active peptides and proteins. Systems of interest could include peptides and proteins that are designed or engineered to have specific properties and biological functions and that may contain non-canonical amino acids, as well as naturally occurring peptides and proteins from eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideally, candidates should have some experience and intellectual interest in applying computational approaches to the study of peptides and proteins or other biological molecules. Computational approaches could include, but are not limited to, structure modeling/design/prediction, molecular dynamics simulation, conformational analysis, thermodynamics, and other approaches for modeling biological macromolecules. Experience in experimental biochemistry and molecular biology, including instrumental methods for structure characterization are also helpful. Candidates should also have a strong background in physical or computational chemistry, and some knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or organic chemistry. In addition to technical competence, candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills, be self-motivated, and be willing and able to work collaboratively and productively, in an interdisciplinary environment, on challenging and exciting research problems.

The candidate must have received a PhD degree in a relevant discipline (such as chemistry, molecular or structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, computer science)
