Organization and Job ID
Job ID: 311059
Directorate: National Security
Division: Signatures Science and Technology
Group:Nuclear Engineering and Analysis
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in computational materials science. The selected candidate will focus on applying computational materials science approaches to investigate the effect of heterogeneous microstructures on diffusion, phase transition, and microstructure impact on material properties and behaviors Examples of material behaviors of interests include ion exchange kinetics in porous waste form materials, ion diffusion and phase transition in solid state batteries, and microstructure evolution and property degradation in nuclear materials.
A candidate should demonstrate good understanding in material science and computational mechanics, preferably in nuclear related materials. Experiences in modeling and simulations are required with one or more of the methods such as phase field, machine learning, computational fluid dynamics, and thermodynamic calculations. The principle responsibilities of the position are: performing modeling and simulation for scientific understanding, developing materials models describing microstructure evolution and material behaviors, preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, and presenting ongoing research. The selected candidate will also help identify potential research topics in related material science fields.
The selected candidate will support federally funded research programs in Energy Frontier Research Centers (Center for Hierarchical Waste Form Materials) and Tritium Technology Project. The position is in immediately available for two years.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
U.S. citizenship required.
Experiences in modeling and simulations are required with one or more of the methods such as phase field, machine learning, computational fluid dynamics, and thermodynamic calculations.
Computational materials science. Cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher preferred.
