Job Description

The Computational Biology and Bioinformatics group within the Environmental and Biological Sciences Directorate at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow. The candidate will be expected to bring expertise to cutting-edge research on machine learning for protein functional determination, integration and statistical analysis of high-throughput data (genetic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic), and biological network analysis.

The ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary background particularly in application of machine learning and statistical methods for sequence analysis to predict protein function and the analysis, bacterial genomics and evolutionary analysis, and interpretation of high-throughput omics data to enable systems biology research. We are looking for someone with a biology background and strong statistics expertise. The candidate will be part of multidisciplinary scientific teams and will be part of the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics group.

The candidate will be participating in projects to build sequence-based machine learning models to predict function in bacterial proteins, and utilizing these models and analytical methods to provide biological insight and hypotheses about potential underlying mechanisms. He/she will be responsible for interacting with scientists in the group as well as collaborators, helping meet project requirements, developing code to implement new ideas, and applying appropriate statistical and/or bioinformatic approaches to problems defined by the projects.
