Job Description

The Environmental Molecular Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks for an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral position working on projects associated with biological applications of high throughput and quantitative proteome mapping of tissue heterogeneity of the pancreas at near single-cell resolution.

PNNL is a leading institution on single-cell and near single-cell proteomics (Zhu et al. Nature Comm. 2018, 882; Piehowski, et al. Nature Comm. 2020, 8) and omics analyses of metabolic diseases (e.g. Nakayasu et al, Cell Metabolism, doi: 10.1016/j.cmet.2019.12.005; El Ouaamari, Cell Metabolism, doi: 10.1016/j.cmet.2015.12.001). PNNL is also part of multiple NIH-funded consortia focused on tissue proteome mapping (HubMAP - The Human BioMolecular Atlas Program) and human metabolism (HIRN – Human Islets Research Network, MoTrPAC - Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium).

The candidate is anticipated to apply cutting-edge microfluidics and mass spectrometry technologies developed in PNNL to understanding the biology of pancreas biology and islet malfunctions in type 1 diabetes. The candidate will be responsible for sample preparation, LC-MS method optimization, and data analysis. The candidate will join a highly collaborative environment and project team with diverse expertise.

The candidate should have a record of accomplishment in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and relevant chemistry or biology areas. While direct experiences in proteomics, mass spectrometry, cell isolation, sample preparation, or pancreatic biology will be ideal, these experiences are not required. The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, think critically, operate productively in a fast-paced academic environment are required.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Omics data processing and visualization skills using R, python, or other tools will be a plus.

Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Physiology or related field.
