Job Description

The Chemical Biology and Exposure Science Team at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is seeking highly motivated candidates for a U.S. Air Force funded postdoctoral position in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Preferable candidates will have domain knowledge in a field of biology and have a Ph.D. degree in biological engineering, bioinformatics, statistics or a related field. Preferred candidates will have experience in performing research in the space of computational biology while demonstrating strong statistics, mathematics and programming skills. Familiarity with programming in R and/or Python for the processing and analysis of a variety of ‘omics data is expected (e.g., genomic sequence, proteomics, metabolomics). Ability to contribute to analysis of large heterogenous data as part of a larger team is necessary. The successful candidate will be expected to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams of researchers, be self-motivated, and have excellent written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate is expected to assist and lead the preparation and presentation of manuscripts, posters, reports, and presentations. Additionally, they will use project management systems at PNNL, maintain an accurate laboratory notebook and adhere to Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) Operations and security requirements and directorate/group policies. The duration of this appointment is two years, with the option of extending the appointment for up to three years, depending on project funding and individual performance.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong organization and communication skills are needed to work efficiently in a team environment and to effectively demonstrate project success. Preferred candidates will have experience in performing research in the space of computational biology while demonstrating strong statistics, mathematics and programming skills.

Domain knowledge in a field of biology and have a Ph.D. degree in biological engineering, bioinformatics, statistics or a field of with training in bioinformatics and strong statistics, programming and mathematics skills.
