Job Description

The Battery Materials and Systems Group is seeking an outstanding postdoctoral research associate with a background in organic chemistry to join our group. Within this role the candidate will develop water soluble heterocycles, both redox-active and redox-inert, and establish their molecular properties (water solubility, redox potential, etc.). Molecules with promising properties will be tested in aqueous flow batteries. The candidate will collaborate with a dynamic team of chemists, physicists, and computational scientists to develop predictive models which connect molecular structure to molecular properties. The candidate will also prepare manuscripts for publication, present the research work at national conferences, and develop new research ideas.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

The candidate must possess a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or other related fields within the past five years from an accredited college or university and have experience in one or more of the following areas: strong expertise in synthesis, experience in establishing structure/property relationships and determining molecular properties. Prior experience with electrochemistry or computational methods is a plus.

Demonstrated record of publishing in first class journals and an ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment are required. Must be safety oriented.

The position is expected to be filled within the next 3 months, but all qualified candidates with upcoming defense dates will be considered.
