The Environmental Signatures Team within the Subsurface Science & Technology Group is seeking applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position. The applicant must demonstrate a strong ethic of service to the scientific community and a commitment to both scientific excellence and national impact on developing transformative science and technology solutions relevant to our nation’s energy security and prosperity.
The selected associate will support federally funded research programs in carbon capture, utilization, and storage and legacy waste management. They will participate in development of new simulation and modeling approaches, with an emphasis on application of quantitative risk assessment methodologies, machine learning, and data analytics on subsurface systems. Through their work, the associate will also develop an internal and external network of collaborators and project partners and participate in professional societies at the regional and national level. The associate is expected to publish scientific findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals as well as present work at professional conferences. Finally, the position requires that the associate complies with PNNL policies regarding environmental health and safety, waste management, and protection of intellectual property.
The position is immediately available for 12 to 24 months, with the potential for an additional 12 months or transition to a permanent position, dependent upon available funding and sustained performance.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Preferred education is a Ph.D. in geosciences, geochemistry, geology, petroleum engineering, or related field. Applicants with a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, computer science, or data analytics will be considered if they have additional background in subsurface earth systems, environmental remediation, or a related field. Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
