Job Description

This position involves planning and performing experiments with radioactive and non-radioactive materials and the subsequent interpretation and reporting of the data from these experiments. This work will require a broad range of analytical techniques and include handling radiological materials, collecting and interpreting experimental data and adapting experiments to meet project objectives.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will work under the guidance of senior scientists and engineers and will focus their initial efforts design, development, assembling, and testing of automated radiochemical systems for separations, with a focus on developing chemistries and associated fluidic systems to deliver medically relevant isotopes of high purity.

The candidate will be responsible for:

• Providing solutions to an assortment of problems using conventional methods where causal relationships are progressively difficult to establish.

• Independently completing assigned tasks, exercising limited judgement on work details and making preliminary selections and adaptations of technical alternatives. This may include use of standard analytical equipment and/or creating custom analytical equipment (e.g., installed within glovebox/hot cell or to automate data collection).

• Building a professional reputation for technical expertise by fully applying and interpreting standard theories, principles, methods, tools and technologies within specialty.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry or radiochemistry with 0-2 years of experience with inorganic chemical separation.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work individually and as a team member.

• The candidate must have experience handling radioactive materials and specifically have experience performing radiochemical separations.

• The candidate must have knowledge of the solution chemistry of an array of radioisotopes from elements such as Sr, Y, Zr, Pb, Bi, At, Th, and U.

• The candidate must have experience with utilizing Microsoft Office, including Excel software for data analysis and interpretation. Experience with other data handling software such as MATLAB, Mathematica, SigmaPlot is a plus.

• The preferred candidate will have experience programming and/or operating milli- and micro-fluidic systems and milli- and micro-scale chemical separation techniques. Experience with in-line and on-line monitoring of fluidic processes using an assortment of detectors and sensors is a plus.

• The preferred candidate will have experience with alpha and gamma spectroscopy, liquid scintillation
