The Optimization and Control Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a post-doc to conduct research in the area of modeling, optimization, and control of energy storage for grid applications. The research focus would be to develop stochastic dispatch and sizing methods to address uncertainties associated with short-term scheduling and long-term planning of energy storage systems in coordination with other resources. In order to contribute to these research efforts, a successful candidate would have deep technical expertise in stochastic optimization, rich experience in energy storage analytics, and good knowledge of reinforcement learning. The candidate is expected to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary research and development teams including researchers within and outside PNNL.
Strong theoretical foundation in optimization and control.
Expertise in optimization modeling language and various linear/nonlinear solvers.
Good understanding of power system operation and planning, engineering economics, and power market.
Research experience in demand response, energy storage and distributed energy resources, and microgrid.
Research experience in distribution system analysis and ACOPF.
Expertise in MATLAB, Python, and Julia.
Strong analytical, task management, and communications skills, both oral and written, and able to communicate clearly the goals, parameters, objectives and outcomes of their research.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Ph.D. degree in Optimization and Control, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
