The Computational Geophysics Team at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a highly qualified candidate with numerical modeling experience using geophysical methods contributing to one or more areas of subsurface characterization:
Joint inversion using geophysical (electrical resistivity tomography, electromagnetics, seismic) methods.
Coupled inversion using geoelectrical methods/models and hydrologic models.
Development of autonomous, time-lapse inversion techniques to be analyzed in near-real time.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Ideal candidates will have experience in areas of geophysics, hydrology and geology. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following is preferred:
Programming skills: Proficiency in Python/Matlab, working knowledge of Fortran, batch scripting, collaboration in git
Numerical modeling experience with one or more geophysical methods (ERT, GPR, EM, seismic)
Field experience using one or more geophysical methods (ERT, EM, GPR, seismic) and willingness to participate in field activities as needed
Effective communication skills
High performance computing (HPC), familiarity with MPI protocols for parallel computing
Familiarity with HPC flow and transport codes
Visualization (e.g. with Visit, Paraview)
