Job Description

The Chemical & Biological Processing group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is looking for a post -doctorate candidate to perform R& D work in the area of heterogenous catalysis. The preferred candidate will have experience in catalytic upgrading of biomass-derived oxygenates including chemistries such as for example dehydration, aldol condensation, oligomerization. The position requires a versatile individual with both applied/hands-on laboratory experience as well as an understanding of concepts employed in reaction engineering (e.g. derivation of kinetic rate laws; mass transfer limitations; structure-to-activity relationships). The successful candidate will be responsible for synthesizing catalysts, testing catalysts in batch and/or fixed-bed reactors, and characterizing the catalysts before and after testing. The successful candidate will also be expected to work effectively and safely with an interdisciplinary team of researchers, be self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills. The results of the successful candidate's work will be used to generate new intellectual property, presentations at national conferences, and new research proposals. The dissemination of results through peer reviewed publications is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Training and hands-on research experiences in: i) reactor design, operation, and trouble-shooting;

A track record of conducting original scientific research and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals

Be a motivated and creative individual who aspires to grow into an independent and productive researcher.

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering

3.5 GPA or higher is preferred
