Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Post Bachelors Research associate to work on a project that focuses on understanding the impact of soil moisture on soil microorganisms (i.e. the soil microbiome). The project is funded by the Department of Energy and aims to use a multi-omics approach to decipher complex community interactions carried out by soil microorganisms during decomposition of soil organic matter and how soil moisture influences those interactions. The project scope ranges from analysis of soil samples from an irrigation field trial to detailed molecular analyses of the soil microbiome. The candidate will have an opportunity to learn about multi-omics software tools for performing downstream data analysis that involves parsing the data in the omics-specific format, exploratory data analysis, and statistical modeling. The candidate must be reliable and capable of working with a large and diverse group of people.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a Bachelor’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 required.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have excellent basic microbiological skills (e.g., aseptic technique); be familiar with standard microbiological procedures for general lab operation and experiments. The successful applicant must also be able to document their success in conducting research.

Special/Hazardous Working Conditions or Environment:

Basic hazards associated with work with chemicals during extraction of DNA and metabolites from samples.
