This position involves planning and performing experiments with radioactive and non-radioactive materials and the subsequent interpretation and reporting of the data from these experiments. This work will require a broad knowledge of analytical techniques, handling oxidizing and corrosive chemicals, handling radiological materials, operating test equipment, collecting and interpreting experimental data, and adapting experiments to meet project objectives.
The candidate will work under the guidance of senior scientists and engineers and will focus their initial efforts on performing batch contact and ion exchange columns tests for separation of cesium from tank waste as well as supporting filtration and melter testing.
The candidate will be responsible for:
Performing hands on work preparing solutions and performing experiments at the direction of more senior scientists and engineers. Activities such as acid/base dilutions and preparation of simulants
Independently completing assigned tasks.
Building a professional reputation for technical expertise by fully applying and interpreting standard theories, principles, methods, tools, and technologies within specialty.
Candidates must have received a Bachelor’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and graphing software.
Demonstrated ability to work individually and as a team member.
Preferred candidate will have some hands-on laboratory experience with solutions preparation and separation methods.
Able to create, read, and interpret complex written information
BS in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field with 0-2 years of experience with inorganic chemical separation.
3.5 GPA or higher is preferred
