Job Description

The National Security Directorate (NSD) within PNNL strives to develop and deploy innovative solutions to meet mission critical needs of the U.S. and its strategic partners as we seek to ensure the achievement of our national security objectives.

The Applied Radiation Detection (ARD) Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is focused on the development of technology supporting applied radiation measurements. Projects within the group range from highly applied projects in support of international treaties and national security to fundamental science projects in the areas of nuclear science, novel sensor technology development, machine learning algorithms, and aerial technology.

The ARD Group is seeking candidates who will contribute to ongoing research and development in noble gas collection, separations, processing and characterization. The successful candidates will have a strong background in the development of gas handing systems and related chemical processing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/BA with 5 years of experience

  • MS/MA with 3 years of experience

  • PhD with 1 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD with 3+ years of experience is highly preferred

  • Excellent skills in gas phase chemical processing

  • Chemical engineering or gas processing background

  • Strong skills in solving complex chemical processing challenges

  • Background in physical/ analytical chemistry/ strong math and analytical skills/ high precision measurements

  • Hands on experimental hardware development and testing.

  • Experience in molecular modeling, process modeling, or experience working with COMSOL is highly desirable

  • Experience performing research in a DOE national laboratory or other Federally-funded Research and Development Center is highly preferred
